Red Curtain presents Ken Ludwig's farce, "Lend Me a Tenor," directed by Morgan Peeler, with performances April 11-27.
The Cleveland Grand Opera is struggling. In a desperate move the opera's manager, Mr. Saunders, manager of the struggling Cleveland Grand Opera, has hired the world-famous Italian tenor Tito Merelli--Il Stupendo--to appear for a one night only performance of "Pagliacci." When Tito arrives late and in poor health, Saunders and his assistant Max decide that, in order for Merelli to sing that night, he must be medicated. He is promptly over-medicated and rendered comatose, appearing dead. Max, a talented yet timid singer, dons the costume and performs in Tito’s place. Miraculously, he is successful.
"Lend Me a Tenor" is a classic farce, filled with mistaken identities, orchestrated slamming doors, flirtatious mixups, spectacular arias, and high stakes. The show is rated PG-13.
Performances are April 11-27, with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The April 12 performance will be ASL-interpreted.
