The next big project to tackle at the arts center is the installation of additional sprinkler heads to ensure guest safety.
The fact that the facility was sprinklered when we moved in was a huge benefit, but when we added upstairs spaces, the areas downstairs were no longer covered by the existing sprinkler layout. So we must install sprinkler heads in the two restrooms, the office, under the stairwell, and in the greenroom.
Bids for the work -- which must be done by a licensed, bonded fire protection services company -- have ranged from $14,000 to $22,000. We've started writing grant proposals to help pay for the project, and guests at the recent auction also added to the sprinkler fund through the Bid-A-Project bidding.
