Springboard 2019

Performance Opportunity for Ages 9-15

Red Curtain's Springboard program challenges young actors to blossom as they learn the critical skills of teamwork, mutual respect, and self-discipline using the tools of musical theatre storytelling.

Students age 9 to 15 will audition for roles in The Locket, a musical theatre production especially suited for young actors (all registered students will be cast). Rehearsals are held four afternoons a week for six weeks (Mon.-Thurs., 4:30-6:30 p.m.), culminating in three fully-staged public performances of their show.

The process is guided by Red Curtain's  Youth Theatre Director, Sherry Penoyer, joined by a musical director, choreographer, and accompanist. The production is supported by Red Curtain's costume, props and set departments.

Tuition for the 2019 program remains the same -- $290 per student. A $90 deposit holds their spot. Use the form below to register, or call (360) 322-7402.

Auditions are set for May 7-8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Red Curtain. Registrants may attend both days, although only one day is required.

  • This is an open audition, meaning all auditioners will be present for the day's auditions.
  • Parents/guardians are asked to wait in the lobby during the audition process.
  • Auditioners will be asked for their choice of the following: recite a poem or nursery rhyme; tell a short story about themselves; or perform a prepared monologue.
  • Auditioners will be asked to sing, a capella (no accompanist), from the following: stage musical; Twinkle, Twinkle or the ABC song (same tune, different lyrics).
  • Auditioners will be asked to dance a simple bit of choreography taught to them during the audition process.
  • Sides will be presented for cold readings.
  • Keep in mind this is a fantasy. Dare to be silly or scary or fantastical.
