Blast off on a routine flight and crash into the planet D'Illyria, where a sci-fi version of The Tempest – set to rock 'n' roll golden oldies – unfolds with glee! The planet is inhabited by a sinister scientist, Dr. Prospero; his delightful daughter Miranda; Ariel, a faithful robot on roller skates; and an uncontrollable monster, the product of Prospero's id, whose tentacles penetrate the space craft.
Return to the Forbidden Planet is a high-energy jukebox musical, packed with rock 'n' roll classics, including “Great Balls of Fire,” “Good Vibrations,” “Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “Young Girl” and “Gloria.”
The program is designed for students ages 14-19, with rehearsals five days a week for six weeks, followed by 2 weekends of public performances of a fully-staged musical. Classes/rehearsals will begin June 23, 2024, with rehearsals Sunday thru Thursday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Performances are set for August 2-3, 9-10. All registered students will be cast in the production. The schedule and expectations for auditions will be shared soon.
Tuition is $340, plus a $25 materials fee. A $100 deposit holds your student's place, with the balance due the first day of class. Use the button to register and pay in full -- or call the office at (360) 322-7402 to register with a partial payment. Full and partial scholarships are available.
NEW INFO: The Marysville Noon Rotary has generously made a grant for ten $250 scholarships for Springboard and/or Summer Stars. To apply, your student must submit a brief essay about "why they want to participate in the theatre program" to office@redcurtainfoundation.org. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 1.
“The best rock and roll show in town... You just have to laugh at the death-defying puns... and the way the songs are worked into the plot with perfect logic.” – Daily Express
Get ready for Red Curtain's Summer Stars. The popular program encourages teen actors to blossom as they learn the critical skills of teamwork, mutual respect, and self-discipline using the tools of musical theatre storytelling. The goal of Summer Stars is to allow teen students to participate in the production of a musical that's a bit beyond typical high school fare. Our program focuses on the process, not the product, while creating memorable performances and life-long friendships.
